Janet Hansen artist

Chocolate Swirl

Acrylic on canvas
24" x 24"

2003

This painting was inspired by a challenge: to create a painting using your "least favorite" color.  As an artist who mostly worked with rainbows, with black and white accents, Janet identified brown as the color she generally avoided, and created this piece using only brown and white.

As a somewhat unexpected result, the finished piece looks like it could have been made with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream, so it was displayed in Janet's dining room until it was sold to a collector.

Like Rainbow Swirl, this painting also represents a departure from highly structured pre-planned paintings, into a phase of more spontaneous creation.
